Compulsory to Provide Aadhaar Card for Filing Income Tax from 1 July Onwards

The budget was announced recently and in the budget there were certainly good things and there were certain things which came to public as a shock. One such clause in the budget stated that the Aadhaar card would be made mandatory to file income tax. The government also stated that it would be compulsory for people to provide Aadhaar details for obtaining a PAN card. The governments suggest that it would be difficult to evade tax after such a step and it would eventually help in eliminating black money from the economy.

As per the government, the step will be helpful as it will help to recognize people with multiple PAN and thus these people would not be able to claim tax benefits because of two PAN Cads. As per the information available, the step is going to be effective from 1 July 2017. The government stated that if in case the person doesn’t have an Aadhaar Card by 1 July 2017, he would require providing the details of the enrolment ID of Aadhaar Card.

Aaadhar Card

In an announcement made later, the income tax department clarified that it would be compulsory for the people to provide details of the Aadhaar card and it is only mandatory for the person who is eligible to get an Aadhaar card. As per the records, the government suggests that the total number of PAN Card holders in India is 25 crore whereas a total number of Aadhaar Card holders is 111 crore.

The government also received a lot of criticism for such a decision and one of the people went ahead to an extent of challenging the decision in Supreme Court. He also requests for an early hearing but he was denied the early hearing date. The results of the case filed in Supreme Court will not be available anytime soon and hence you should get you Aadhaar card in order to file Income Tax or else you might be termed as a tax defaulter for no reason as no income tax will be accepted without Aadhaar Card.
